The Camino de Santiago is a network of routes running through all of Spain – and all of Europe – toward a single place: the tomb of St. James in Santiago de Compostela. For over a thousand years, people have walked it in search of something more than a view from the top. Some seek silence. Others seek answers. Others simply want to walk, day after day, until they arrive.
At Sobre de la Mesa, this will be an evening in which we present the essence of what a pilgrim finds along the way: a simplicity that hides depth, and flavours that are at once humble and unforgettable.
Galicia, Castile & León
On one side, Galicia. A land of mist, the Atlantic, and seafood, where pulpo a la gallega has simmered in copper pots for generations, and empanada gallega accompanies every family celebration.
On the other, Castile and León. Dry, rugged, proud – home of Ribera del Duero, wines of a strength and character worthy of the pilgrims who have crossed this land for centuries.
Between these two worlds stretches the Camino, and with it, a menu that joins the cool Atlantic with the hot sun of the plateau.
We have paired the menu with two icons of the region. Ribera del Duero wine – red, with a deep, velvety structure. A symbol of the strength and patience of Castilian land. And Verdejo from Rueda – white, fresh, mineral, like the morning air over the Duero river.
