It is the largest medieval market square in Europe. It buzzes with life at any time of day or night. At its center, the monumental Cloth Hall towers over, and beneath the surface lies the fascinating Rynek Underground Museum. The Hejnał Mariacki sounds every hour, abruptly stopping – a tribute to the city’s guardian who, in the 14th century, warned the city of invaders but was killed by their arrow while playing. Walking around the square, you will discover the artistic atmosphere of the city – street musicians, mimes, carriages, and café gardens give this place a unique character.
